Oxidative phosphorylation is the process by which cells produce energy. It occurs in the mitochondria, which are tiny structures inside cells. During oxidative phosphorylation, electrons are transferred from one molecule to another through a series of chemical reactions. This process creates a molecule called ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is used by cells as a source of energy.
